Solar Power and Solar Panels

The generation of electricity from sunlight is called solar power. There are two ways that this feat can be achieved: direct with photovoltaics (PV) and indirect with concentrating solar power (CSP).

With CSP, the energy of the sun is concentrated to boil water, which is then used to supply power. Solar power is an intermittent energy source, but a predictable one at that. This means that while solar power is not readily available all of the time, at night for example, it is relatively easy to accurately predict when solar power will be accessible and when it won’t be.

Moreover, technologies like solar thermal concentrators exist that make use of thermal storage via molten salts. This allows them to amass extra solar energy in the form of heat so that solar power will be available during the night time when natural solar power is not available.

Solar power has great potential to be used as a significant source of natural energy. Yet, in 2008, a meager .02% of the world’s total energy supply was provided by solar energy. The most common way of yielding solar power is through the use of solar panels, which can be installed in homes and businesses.

Unlike many other sources of energy, the electricity that is produced by solar panels is both sustainable and renewable. Furthermore, seeing as solar panels do not pollute the air by discharging carbon dioxide or other impurities, they are an energy source that does not contribute to global warming. Installing solar panels in your home or business can be very expensive initially, but in the long run, you will end up saving a lot of money using solar panels instead of the other less environmentally friendly energy source alternatives.

Solar panels will significantly decrease your electric bill from month to month and depending on the size of your solar panel configuration, you could end up eliminating your bill all together. Additionally, in an attempt to promote the use of solar panels, the government frequently will offer incentives for people to use solar panels, such as loans, tax deductions, etc. Plus, if the solar panel configuration that you install ends up generating more energy than you necessitate, you can sell the unused energy to your utility company for a profit.

Another benefit of solar panels is that they are self-sufficient and very low maintenance. After they have been installed, solar panels typically do not require much upkeep and they do not have any inveterate costs. Moreover, with solar panels, you will never have to worry about losing power in a power outage, so the days of losing hundreds of dollars worth of groceries and scrambling to find flashlights will be gone for good.

Being as environmentally friendly and cost efficient as they are, investing in solar panels for your home or business is definitely worthy of strong consideration, especially given the fact that the earth collects more energy from the sun in one hour’s time than the entire world population will utilize in a year.
